MRP and Manufacturing with Dynamics GP contains a variety of functions that you can start using in your business quickly. If you have long lead times for your component items and/or manufactured items, you would probably want to use some type of materials requirements planning (MRP) tool. A lot of people use Excel. But if you want to speed things up and automate much of the process, you will want to use an MRP function that is well integrated with your ERP system.
The MRP function in Dynamics GP can consider several different factors in determining what items need to be purchased or manufactured, and when the activities need to start. The system easily suggests purchase orders that need to be released, and you can just check the ones you want to create, and the system will create them for you. The system will also suggest manufacturing orders that need to be opened to make finished goods or subassemblies.
The MRP process in Dynamics GP can be set up to consider these attributes:
- Existing item quantities by location
- Items included on existing purchase orders
- Finished goods sales forecasts
- Open sales orders
- Safety stock requirements
- Vendor lead times
